Einstein and Elinchrom

Two months ago we sold all our Elinchrom Ranger RX AS kits and BXRi 500 lighting equipment and replaced them with Paul C. Buff Einstein lighting and lithium batteries. Our first impressions.... the Einsteins are much better.

Here is a short list of why we like the Einsteins better.

More powerful than the BX 500 Ri

We think the lighting accessories make a bigger difference than the flash itself. With the new Einsteins we use the same Chimera Super Pro soft boxes as we used with our Elinchrom lights. The light that comes out seems slightly warmer in our D3x in auto white balance. Other than that light is light and we're able to control it the same way as we could before. But now we don't have to wait as long for the flash to recycle. We are able to shoot as fast as we want in most case without missing a flash.

The PocketWizard trigger is much better than Elinchrom's Skyport. On average we have only about one to two missed flashes per 1000 shots on the PW versus about 10 to 20 per 1000 shots on the Skyports.

In our opinion Elinchrom lighting equipment is overpriced for the level of light they produce. They desperately need to update their product line and lower their prices if they want us to even consider going back. For portrait, stock, most commercial, and wedding photography I think Einsteins are the way to go. For bigger commercial shoots rent Profoto or Broncolor.

Who is Kaspi

Kaspi is a modern photography studio with four experienced photographers. Kaspi is short for Kilikopela's Aperture Studio Photography Inc. Yes, we know that it is a long and difficult name to pronounce. That is why we shortened it to Kaspi.

Having fun, meeting new people and being creative is what attracts us to the art of photography. For us few things are as rewarding as coming back from a shoot knowing that we nailed it dead on. This is what keeps us going in this competitive business.

Our studio is located in downtown Oshawa on the corner of Simcoe and William St. We have a 2400 square foot space with a large white or black background that we use for both photos and videos when we aren't on location.

We have experience in commercial and stock photography and are currently expanding to include aerial photography. Our stock photo portfolio is with iStockphoto. For aerial photography we use single-rotor collective pitch and multi-rotor R/C helicopters.

Who are Kaspi's four photographers?

Christopher is the one who started the business. His love for photography and ability to learn quickly and throroughly allowed him to become a very successful internationally published commercial photographer. It is because of his love for creativity, variety, and meeting people that he expanded to add wedding photography.

Terri Lynn is the brains behind the operation. It was through her creative research and valuable production, communication, and people skills that made this company such a big success. She has a very creative eye, especially with children, and sometimes acts as a second photographer at weddings.

Alex takes care of the technology side of the business. Beyond just being a great photographer he also has skills and lots of experience in Photoshop. If you have a technical question about any Nikon, Elinchrom, Einstien, PC, or Macintosh items he is the person to ask. He also knows a whole lot about cars.

Jonny is our satelite photographer. He lives in Vancouver, Washington and shoots mainly stock photos for us. He occasionally helps us out with weddings and often shoots his own weddings in the Pacific Northwest. He is a highly motivated and highly skilled graduate with a degree in media studies.

Christopher Futcher is a lifestyle photographer located in Central Alberta. When he is not traveling or on location he does most of his work in his studio in Lacombe, AB. He has done commercial, stock, portrait, and wedding photography in Alberta, Ontario, Arizona, Oregon, and California.

He sells thousands of pictures per month on both traditional and micro stock agencies such asiStockphoto, Shutterstock, Dreamstime, StockXpert, Design Pics, Photo Edit, and more. Design Pics, a Christian based agency in Edmonton, handles distributing Christopher's images as rights managed and royalty free to over 160 macro stock sites including Getty, Corbis, and Jupiter Images. He also directly contributes to 10 micro stock sites.

Back in the 80s and 90s Christopher picked up an interest for photography. He used his father's Nikon F4 and joined his high school yearbook staff. For the next few years he continued taking pictures on an amateur level as a hobby. Sometimes when people saw his pictures they suggested he make money from them.

From 2002 to 2008 he was in the U.S. Navy where he rekindled his passion for photography while writing articles and taking pictures for the base newspaper. Other jobs he had while in the navy included helicopter search and rescue, aviation warfare systems operator, and a program supervisor.

He was born in Hawaii and lived on the beautiful island of Kauai until high school. Since high school he moved around living in five different states and three different countries. He met his wife Terri Lynn in 2006 while living in Japan. She was living in Oshawa, Ontario--55 minutes from Toronto.

Hobbies include snowboarding, running, hiking, playing with his daughter, reading, and Web design. Together Terri Lynn and Christopher ran in the 2008 Tokyo Marathon and Christopher went on to run in the 2008 Boston Marathon.

Terri Lynn helps Christopher by finding models ,shooting, editing, composition, ideas, and general support. His daughter is his favourite model.

Nikon is Christopher's camera of choice. He uses only top of the line professional equipment and owns both the D700 and D3x, Nikon's flagship digital single lens reflex (DSLR) camera.
